Zao Nafasi Charity Dinner for fund raising
The Hague, 4 May 2011 – Zao Nafasi, Swahili for ‘creating chances’, organized an African style charity dinner. The charity dinner took place, last week 28 April 2011, from 5 pm till 10 pm. The event took place at a local Kenyan restaurant, called ‘The three stones’ in The Hague, which gave the charity dinner that ‘extra African vibe’.
Important individuals that Zao Nafasi have had the pleasure to work with, attended this dinner. Furthermore they had a chance to meet the volunteers behind the organization and got to know them better.
The money that were raised with the charity dinner, will be used to achieve our utmost important goal: a trip to Cameroon to work on the local projects of Zao Nafasi, one of the main aims of the organization.
With the African style charity dinner, the organization wanted to inform people about who they really are and what Zao Nafasi stands for.
Zao Nafasi wanted to let the event take place in this type of environment, that could really reflect their image. The Restaurant “Three stones” was the perfect venue, as it seems to take people to the original culture of Africa. Everywhere you look, you could see attributes and decorations that displayed the African vibe and culture from authentic masks to the animal print tablecloths. A big table was reserved for the guests to allow them to get to know each other, socialize and simply have fun.
The event began with the short introduction of the organization, from the founder of the organization, Marie-Noelle Baba. The guests were informed in what the organization really does, the future plans and the major purpose of the event. Another pivotal thing, was that the guests got to know more about the rest of the people behind the organization. After the short introduction, the other organization members introduced themselves. Some of them were members from the beginning of the organization, others were freshmen university students who were just starting.
In the kitchen of the restaurant, delicious meals were cooked and served, with the original African taste.
Between the meals that were served, there was plenty of time for interaction. The green garden of the restaurant, gave us an opportunity to socialize with other guests and organization members. People were talking about their experiences and were able to ask any questions to the organization.
Another important thing of the event, was the African exhibition: a great collection of African culture. These included African robes and figurines. The guests were very interested in them and some of them even purchased something.
When the event approached its end, many compliments were received. One of the greatest moments of that night, was when one of the guests proposed to pay one of the tickets to Cameroon. This was a result the organization never thought to achieve.
